Crawler (BlogDigestBot)

To find new posts, this service fetches the public feeds and article pages of a small list of blogs, each one chosen or approved by the operator, about every 60 minutes per blog. Requests identify themselves with the user agent BlogDigestBot and a link to this page, honour robots.txt (block the bot with User-agent: BlogDigestBot and Disallow: /) and use conditional requests, so an unchanged feed costs one small request. Article texts are only used to write a short teaser that links to the original and are deleted after 7 days. If you run one of these blogs and want it removed from the service, write to privacy@digestli.ch.

Suggested blogs. Signed-in users can suggest a blog for the list. The bot then checks the suggested blog once: over https only, only on that site's own domain, with a few requests for the page, the feed it links to and robots.txt, and without fetching any article. If robots.txt does not allow the bot or the site cannot be reached, it tries again at most twice within the next hours and then gives up. Later suggestions of the same blog reuse that result for up to 30 days while it waits for the operator's review, and a blog the operator has rejected is not checked again. Your site never learns who suggested it. A suggested blog is fetched regularly only after the operator has reviewed and approved it; a site whose robots.txt blocks BlogDigestBot is not added.
